The world fell in love with Josh Hutcherson’s character, Peeta Mellark, in the Hunger Games book trilogy, and then fell in love with Hutcherson’s adaptation of Mellark in the movies, and so did Hutcherson. Now that the movies have finished filming, he’s feeling the sadness that comes with saying goodbye to coworkers that have become friends and family over the past few years.
“I miss it so much. It pains me every day a little bit when I wake up, that we’re not filming anymore,” he said after the Teen Choice Awards. The role was one he played for a few years as the franchise shot several movies. Hutcherson worked closely with Academy Award winning actress Jennifer Lawrence, who played his love interest and the main character, Katniss Everdeen, in the film. The final two installments of the film were shot in about 10 months time, together, and while Hutcherson, 21, admits that it was exhausting to film so much and so often, it was not a happy moment when it ended.
“It was honestly hard to say it was a celebration because we were all so sad that it was coming to an end. We had a little wrap party the night we finished. It was so great to see everyone there letting loose, but it was more sad. I don’t want to be melancholy, but we weren’t ready for it to be finished yet,” the actor said of the final party and saying goodbye to the cast and crew of the movie.
Of course, that feeling is one that fans will know all too well when the final movie is released and the end is near. No one wants to see something they love so much come to an end, but like all good things, it must. We feel you, Josh.
